Vaginoplasty / Vaginal rejuvenation /Vaginal Tightening / Posterior Vaginal Repair
- Vaginoplasty/Vaginal Rejuvenation/Vaginal Tightening /Posterior Vaginal Repair is a surgical procedure performed to fix Vaginal Relaxation. Women with vaginal relaxation often complain they no longer feel the same amount of friction during intercourse.
- The patient will often describe vaginal looseness and often a decrease in a woman’s ability to attain vaginal orgasms. The main component of the lack of friction is the relaxation of the posterior inner vagina as well there is usually a component of relaxation at the vaginal opening.
- The cause of posterior vaginal wall relaxation is a weakening of the pelvic support structures and thinning of the recto-vaginal septum in the posterior vaginal wall.
- Birth trauma such as multiple, difficult or prolonged deliveries, the use of forceps or other assisted methods of delivery, perineal tears, or an episiotomy into the rectum or anal sphincter muscles may increase the risk of a woman developing posterior vaginal wall prolapse (or we call a rectocele).
- A history of constipation and straining with bowel movements, or hysterectomy may contribute to the development of posterior vaginal wall relaxation or prolapse. These problems develop with age but they may occasionally occur in younger women or in those that have not delivered children.
- This aesthetic vaginal surgery aims to tone and tighten lax and overly stretched vaginal muscles and tissues resulting in greater contraction strength and control, thus permitting greater sensation during sexual experience.
- The procedure is used to remove excess posterior vaginal mucosa to correct defects in the posterior vaginal wall (rectovaginal fascia) to narrow the diameter of the vagina which results to a smaller and tighter vaginal canal and opening. The tightening is done in the entire length of the vagina and not merely in the opening few centimeters unlike the superficial perineoplasty repair.
